Species of the Week: Eastern Hemlock (Tsuga canadensis)

Did you put up a Christmas tree this year? 🎄Check out this post to learn about a native tree that grows in Pennsylvania forests that closely resembles a Christmas tree… okay, maybe a really BIG Christmas tree!

Check out this link to see the official Act that declared this species our STATE TREE in 1931! It even mentions this species being used as a Christmas tree (today, most Christmas trees are a type of Fir, which are a bit different from Eastern Hemlocks). https://www.legis.state.pa.us/WU01/LI/LI/US/HTM/1931/0/0233..HTM#:~:text=HEMLOCK%20ADOPTED%20AS%20STATE%20TREE%20Act%20of%20Jun.,the%20State%20tree%20of%20Pennsylvania
